Confirm your pregnancy with a free ultrasound

A positive test tells you that you are pregnant. An ultrasound tells you the rest: how far along you are, where the pregnancy is, and whether it is viable.

An ultrasound monitor and transducer ready for a scheduled scan.

Why an ultrasound matters before any pregnancy decision

An ultrasound checks for medical concerns that affect your safety and your options:

  • Location: rules out an ectopic pregnancy, which is a medical emergency requiring different care than abortion or prenatal care.
  • Dating: confirms how far along you are. Gestational age affects which options are medically available to you.
  • Viability: checks for a heartbeat and signs that the pregnancy is progressing. Roughly one in four early pregnancies ends in miscarriage on its own.

For these reasons, ultrasound is recommended by physicians before starting any pregnancy plan, including a medical abortion.

What to expect

  1. Confirm your pregnancy with a free urine test if you have not already.
  2. A trained sonographer brings you to a private exam room.
  3. The scan typically takes 15 to 20 minutes.
  4. You receive a printed summary and the chance to ask questions.

Common questions

An ultrasound confirms three things a urine test cannot: that the pregnancy is in the uterus, how far along it is, and whether it is viable. These details affect every option you may consider.
